Day 86 "Jesus Christ: The Exact Representation of God's Being" (Hebrews: Chap. 1)

Have you ever heard of a security clearance? I found this description on-line: A security clearance is an authorization that allows access to information that would otherwise be forbidden. Security clearances are commonly used in industry and government. ... When a clearance security is required for access to specific information, the information is said to be classified. There are three levels of security clearance in the government, with the highest level being Top Secret. Secret is the next level of clearance and Confidential is the lowest.

Information that is deemed Top Secret, or "TS," is often given as the result of a Single Scope Background Investigation, or SSBI. Top Secret clearances, in general, afford one access to data that affects national security, counter terrorism/counter intelligence, or other highly sensitive data. Once obtained, it is only usable for the person for whom it was issued. Identification is needed to identify a particular person who desires entry to a classified area. Only when the individual's identity is verified, can the individual proceed to gain entrance to the secured and classified area.

When it comes to someone being able to stand in our place, to pay the penalty for our sins and set us free from condemnation, that person, too, needs to be verified and proven to be someone who fulfills the requirements to be able to die for our sins. We know that only one who is without sin can stand in our place as being a qualified atoning sacrifice. Thus, as we begin study the book of Hebrews, the author makes his case for verifying who Jesus is and substantiates Jesus' credentials as our sacrificial lamb and redeemer.

Chapter One:

"but in these last days he (God) has spoke to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir

of all things, and through whom he made the universe. Hebrews 1:2

"After he had provided purification for our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." Hebrews 1:3

"So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs." Hebrews 1:4

Key verses for me:

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sus-

taining all things by his powerful word." Hebrews 1:3

Who is Jesus? He is the radiance of God and the exact representation of God's being. The universe was made by him. Jesus' credentials and state-of-being proved that he was more than capable and qualified to provide for the purification for our sins. He is also above all angels in heaven.

Jesus also confirmed who he was with his disciples while he was with them.

When Philip, one of Jesus' disciples, emplored Jesus to just show them the Father and that that would be enough for them, Jesus responded, "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you for such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father." John 14:8-9

Jesus, the one and only Son of God, being perfect and without sin, was completely and wholly qualified to die in our place for our sins. Jesus would do for us, what we could not do under the first covenant with God.

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36

In His love, see you tomorrow....
