Day 115 "How Then, Shall I Live?"

ree

This picture hung above a fireplace of a person who was very dear to me. He was my father-in-law for over twenty years. In all those years, I never heard an unkind word spoken by him and only saw a quiet man who spoke lovingly through a servant's heart. He loved the Lord. And I always felt that he accepted and loved me, too. I recently came across his memorial card and found this saying on the back:

I was not a preacher

I was not called to be.

I just tried to serve Jesus

By simply being me.

I couldn't even teach

For I had so much to learn;

I found I had to seek God's counsel

Most everywhere I turned.

I did my best to live each day

The way He'd want me to,

Being kind to those around me

With a heart sincere and true.

George Robert "Bob" Russell's life profoundly touched my life with kindness and acceptance. I am confident that his source of inspiration and love came from the Lord, Jesus Christ himself, and he found his strength and encouragement daily in God's love as depicted in the picture above.

When it comes to living a Godly life, it doesn't take much at all. It really comes down to understanding God's love and trusting it. We live out our lives each day by the choices we make every moment throughout the day. How we filter those moments make all the difference! There is no higher calling upon our lives than to live our lives in love.

"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

Ephesians 5:1-2

"We love because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19

All that we see around us here on Earth is temporary. It will pass away. Like sojourners, we, too, shall pass on from the presence of this life. Therefore, consider your footsteps as you tread through this life. It doesn't take a great man or woman to make a great impact on this world. A kind word or loving act can have a profound influence on another person's life and change their destination. I know, because Bob Russell changed mine.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."

John 15:13

I am reminded with profound gratitude and respect for all the lives sacrificed for our freedom and protection on this Memorial Day. Although it is not Easter, I am even more grateful of the one life sacrificed on the cross for the benefit of all mankind. The question arises from deep within my soul, surrounded by such sacrifices, "How then, shall I live out my life? I shall seek to live it out in gratitude and with love.

In His love, I'll see you tomorrow...
