Day 109 "Don't Tell Me What To Do!"

In many ways, we are our own person, king or queen of our own kingdom. Seldom do we like to be told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. I think most of us would like to be asked to do something-it keeps us in control of our lives.


I believe, however, that one of the times that we feel it's okay for someone to tell us what to do is when we know the other person has our best interest at heart which, again, brings us back to the concept of love. What a huge difference it makes when we know the other person is for us and not against us or trying to put their interest ahead of our own! Is it any wonder, then, that we have such difficulty coming to God and submitting and yielding our will to His?


But the more we come to understand God and his love for us, our resistance becomes less and less until we realize for ourselves how much God loves us and wants us to be all that he designed each one of us to be. The Apostle Paul grasped this concept. Listen to what he had to say to encourage us:


"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:17-19


"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? Romans 8:35


"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height or depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:37-39


Love makes all the difference in the world! When we encounter the real thing, nothing else quite measures up to it. Suddenly, we begin to see a lifestyle in stark contrast to what the world has to offer. Rather than seeking to live out life for ourselves, our pleasures, our wants, we are introduced to a higher calling for our lives- to make the motive of serving others a higher priority than that of serving our own. This love changes our lives from the inside outward. And when this takes place, we begin to see the world around us with a different light. We begin to feel with God's heart and to see from His viewpoint. The things of this world become increasingly temporary and fleeting, while the things of God become more illuminated with permanence and stability.


Look around you and what do you see? Why does man face such problems with one another? Why is it so difficult to get along with each other? If everyone were to live in the moment, making decisions taking the interest of others to heart, what kind of a different world might you experience? The message from God is very simple, everything is predicated and built upon it: it is to love. Understanding love provides the motivation and the wind beneath our wings.


"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." Galatians 5:6


"And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us." 1 John 3:23


Love can make all the difference in the world. Let it make a difference in yours.

In his love, may you see the world anew as God sees it. See you tomorrow....
